Yangzhou, where Marco Polo once served as a municipal official, is a city with a history of 2,500 years. Sitting on the northern bank of the Yangtze River, it borders the provincial capital of Nanjing to the southwest. The city itself is a museum of Chinese culture and a beautiful Chinese garden. Tourist sights include Slender Western Lake and its many well preserved Suzhou style gardens.
