Trip Highlights - Attractions involved: Pelkhor Chode (Kumbum), known as 'monastery with praying wheel', is the most famous monastery in Gyantse and is best known for the only preserved monastery dagoba inside. The 32-meter-tall (105ft) Kumbum Dagoba, the king of Tibetan dagoba, is in the center of the monastery. It is a typical example of Tibetan architectural skill. Gyantse Tsong Burg, ruins of ancient city meaning 'the peak of victory and top of King Palace', was built over 600 years ago. It had been the most important trading centers. Tzong, a fortification site on hill, is in the city center. The people in Gyantse city wrote a glorious page in the spring of 1904 defending foreign invasions. Today, your sincere guide will pick you up at your hotel in Gyantse and take you to visit Pelkhor Chode, which is at the northwest foot of Dzong Hill. Pelkhor Chode holds Sakya Sect, Gelug Sect and Gedang Sect. After lunch, you will go to visit Gyantse Tsong Burg, a ruins of an ancient fortification, located in the center of Gyantse ancient city. Then, you will be driven back to your hotel. (Service End)

Pelkhor Chode, also known as Palcho Monastery or Palkhor Monastery or Shekar Gyantse, is the main monatery located 3900 meters high in the northeast corner of Gyangtse County over 200 kilometers south of Lhasa and around 100 east of Shigatse. First built in 1418, the Palkhor Monastery is the very unique monastery in Tibet that holds three sects of Tibetan Buddhism: the Sakyapa Sect (Stripe sect), the Kadampa Sect and the Gelugpa Sect (Yellow Sect) all together. The architecture of the Palkhor Monastery is a fusion style of Han, Tibet and Nepali. The Kumbum Stupa in Palkhor Monastery is a pagoda of hundreds of temples overtopping on each other, which is called the 'tower upon tower' structure. The murals or statues of Buddha have well displayed the finest Tibetan art in terms of vibrant color and naturalistic style. The Palkhor Monastery is a very unique travel destination for pilgrims as well as people from all over the world...
