Turpan, located some 180km southeast of Urumqi in the east part of Xinjiang Province, is one of the few basin areas below the sea level in the world. The basin is a narrow, long stretch of land covering a total area of fifty thousand square kilometers, with Kurultag Mountain to the south and Bogda Mountain to the north. Tour Itinerary: (Lunch)
This morning you will be picked up at your hotel and driven to Turpan. There you will first visit the Buddhist Bezelkik Caves. These are some of the most important Buddhist grottoes in China. Afterwards you will visit the Flaming Mountains, which are made up of red sandstone. After lunch, you will visit the famous Ancient Ruined City of Gaochang, an important garrison for this region of China during the Western Han and Tang Dynasties. It is the largest, oldest and best preserved ancient city in China. Afterwards, you will be driven back to Urumqi.

The Buddhist Bezelkik Caves
The Bizaklik Caves were created during the ancient Huihu State and the inscriptions in the caves are written in Uigar, Chinese and other languages. There are several caves that have hundreds of murals; however, the murals have been destroyed several times by different groups of people or periods: vandals, religious clashes and foreign explorers. Gaochang Ruins
The Ancient City of Gaochang is located near the Flaming Mountains and southeast of Turpan. The city was constructed in the first century B.C. and was first called Gaochangbi. However, during the 14th century, the city was burned down by wars. The city walls are still intact and divide the city into three parts: the inner, outer and palace.
