During the colonial period and at independence, the country was known as Dahomey. It was renamed on 1975 to the Benin.China first established the diplomatic relations with Benin in 1964; however, in 1966 Benin ended the relation unilaterally. Since they rebuilt it in 1972, the friendship and cooperation between China and Benin has been developing normally.
