Chad, officially known as the Republic of Chad, is a landlocked country in central Africa. Due to its distance from the sea and its largely desert climate, the country is sometimes referred to as the "Dead Heart of Africa". With more than 200 ethnic groups, Chad is one of the most religiously diverse countries in Africa. The establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Chad was first started in 1972. However, in 1997 Chad resumed the "diplomatic relations" with Taiwan Authority which made China suspended the relations with Chad since then. The diplomatic relations of these two countries started to become normal after the joint communiqué on resuming the ties in 2006.
