The State of Kuwait is a sovereign Arab emirate situated in the northeast of the Arabian Peninsula in Western Asia. It is bordered by Saudi Arabia to the south and Iraq to the north and lies on the northwestern shore of the Persian Gulf. The emirate covers an area of 20,000 square kilometres and has a population of about 2.9 million. Kuwait has a GDP (PPP) of US$138.6 billion and a per capita income of US$60,800,making it the 5th richest country in the world. The influence of Islamic and Arab culture on its architecture, music, attire, cuisine and lifestyle is prominent as well. It developed diplomatic relation with China on March 22, 1971. The national day is Febrary 25th.
