Macedonia, officially the Republic of Macedonia, is a country in the central Balkan peninsula in Southeastern Europe. It is one of the successor states of the former Yugoslavia, from which it declared independence in 1991. It became a member of the United Nations in 1993, but as a result of a dispute with Greece over its name. It has a total area of 25,333 km² with a population of about 2 million (2005). It developed diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level with China on October 12, 1993. But on Febrary 9, 1999, because of Taiwan Issues, Chinese government terminated the diplomatic relation with Macedonia and restored on June 18, 2001. The national day of Macedonia is November 11th.
