Mongolia is a landlocked country in East and Central Asia. Ulan Bator, the capital and largest city, is home to about 38% of the population. Mongolia's political system is a parliamentary republic. As a consequence, it came under strong Russian and Soviet influence. Mongolia's economy is centered on agriculture and mining. Mongolia has rich mineral resources, and copper, coal, molybdenum, tin, tungsten, and gold account for a large part of industrial production. It has a total area of 1,564,11.75 km² with a population of about 2.7 million (2009 estimate). It developed diplomatic relation with China on October 16, 1949.. The national day is July 11th.
