Portugal, officially the Portuguese Republic, is a country located in southwestern Europe on the Iberian Peninsula. Portugal is the westernmost country of mainland Europe and is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west and south and by Spain to the north and east. Portugal has developed a specific culture while being influenced by various civilizations that have crossed the Mediterranean and the European continent,The capital city is Lisbon. Portugal has a total area of 92142km² with a population of about 10.7 milion (January 2009). It developed diplomatic relation with China on Febrary 8, 1979. The national day is June 10th.
