Suriname Embassies and Consulates

Suriname lies on the northeast coast of South America. It is the smallest independent country on South American continent. Independence from the Netherlands was granted in 1975. Suriname is extremely diverse ethnically, linguistically, and religiously. The economy of Suriname is dominated by the bauxite industry. On May 28, 1976, the People's Republic of China formally established diplomatic relations with the Republic of Suriname. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties, the two countries have carried fruitful cooperation in political, economic, military and cultural fields. In international affairs, the two countries always support each other and cooperate closely.
