Turkey officially, The Republic of Turkey, is a Eurasian country that stretches across the Anatolian peninsula in Western Asia and Thrace (Rumelia) in the Balkan region of southeastern Europe. Turkey is a parliamentary representative democracy. The head of state is the President of the Republic and has a largely ceremonial role. Turkey has a very diverse culture that is a blend of various elements of the O?uz Turkic, Anatolian, Ottoman and Western culture and traditions. It has a total area of 783,562 km² with a population of about 74.8 milion (January 2009). It developed diplomatic relation with China on Augest  4, 1971. The independent day of Turkey is October 29th.
