Erdos Travel Guide

Erdos, a city with its great cultural heritage and unique scenery, attracts the visitors to travel there. It is situated in the southwest of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, is just 600 Kilometers west of Beijing and 100km south of the Yellow River. Erdos is a Mongolian name, meaning a place with a great number of palaces. Generally, Erdos enjoys a semi-arid climate. The area of the city is 86,752 square kilometers and with the population of around 2,000,000. Most guide books will suggest that late August is the best time to travel there. The temperatures during this month range from 20-25 to lows of 15 degrees centigrade.

With its scenic grasslands, flourishing cultural heritage and distinct ethnic customs, Erdos has emerged as a significant travel destination in recent years. The best known attractions are: Genghis Khan Mausoleum, Erdos Grassland Travel Area, Erdos Relict Gull National Natural Reserve and Xiangshawan Travel Area. It is also famous for the abundant natural resources with 50 kinds of mineral resources, among which coal reserves are around 763 billion. What's more, as the local nomadic Mongolian people are good at singing and dancing. Travelers can always see them singing on galloping horses and dancing on the broad grassland.
