-Travel to Lanzhou

Lanzhou is an interesting place to spend a day or two traveling and taking it easy. Lanzhou, capital of Gansu Province, is a major stop on the ancient "Silk Road" west of Xi'an. It is the second largest city in the northwest area of China, covering a total area of 13,000 square kilometers with a population of 2.58 million. Starting in the Qin Dynasty, merchants and traders traveling from Xi'an to central Asia and then on to the Roman Empire, or the other way round, broke their long journey at Lanzhou. The city's land features include valleys, basins, hills, and gully areas. The Yellow River flows through the whole city, which gives it a unique scenery.

As a regional transport hub, Lanzhou is easily arrived by air and land. Most travelers within the province come by long distance coach, while those traveling from father areas prefer air and railway. While in Lanzhou, travelers can also visit many of its attractions. Amongst the splendid travel sites in and around the city, the most famous is the Bingling Temple Caves. Other places of interest are Wuquan Mountain, Baita Mountain and Xinglong Mountain, all summer resorts, and Lutusi ancient government, the most complete ancient palace building that has survived through China's long history.

The typical Lanzhou local dishes include Lanzhou hand-pulled beef noodles, stuffed honeydew melon, and roasted suckling pig, all of which, along with a range of local handicrafts, can be found at the city's night markets.
