Taian is located in the center of Shandong Province, at the south foot of Mt. Tai, and adjoins Jinan to the north, Qufu to the south. The city enjoys monsoon climate and has four distinct seasons: to be windy and dry in spring; hot and rainy in summer; cool in fall and cold in winter. Taishan Mountain International Climbing Festival is held every year in early September, during the opening ceremony, sports competition, business trade activities and cultural activities will be on stage. There are two popular ascent routes on the mountain, taking in different vistas at varying levels of difficulty. Even the easiest return routes take several hours to complete.
