Tianshui, as the second largest city in Gansu Province, located in the south part of the city. It has a long and rich history and regarded as one of the birthplaces of Chinese people. For centuries, it is also an important town on the Silk Road for the travelers and merchants, whom can have a rest there and get an experience of the local custom. Also, it was deemed as the birthplace of the legendary emperor Fuxi, whom is regarded as the ancestor of the Chinese people. Today throngs of people still flock to the Fuxi Temple, in the western section of the city, to commemorate him.

Tianshui enjoys a convenient transport. From Lanzhou it is easy to reach Tianshui by bus on a journey that takes about 5 hours. The airline was newly opened, the scheduled flights leading to all major cities in China. September, October and November are the best months to travel to Tianshui. It has been an important distribution center for goods and materials in the southeast of Gansu Province since ancient times, highly reputed as "West China Textile City" and "Electric Equipment Centre". wheat and corn as the main crops, Tianshui food is mainly made from flaour.

The Maiji Mountain ("Wheat-stack Mountain") is regarded as the savior of Tianshui. It has a beautiful natural environment with the wooded slopes, large statues, ancient Buddhist and many areas for pleasant hiking. And the famous Maiji Mountain Grottoes at the Maiji Mountain area is one of the "Great Four Grottoes" in China, has and existing total of 194 stunning grottoes and won the reputation as the "Oriental Sculpture Gallery".
