It  is an ancient city with a history of more than three thousand years. In recent years the city has been making a come back economically, although this comes somewhat at the cost of losing the small city charm. Concrete buildings and skyscrapers are rapidly entering the city. Wuxi's long-distance bus station is adjacent to the train station, offering regular service to Shanghai, which is the most convenient gateway for international travelers, with frequent connections available worldwide.

In recent years, the Wuxi National Tourist Resort Zone at Mashan has expanded the city's travel attractions, building such sightseeing and amusement projects as the International Angling Center, the Moon-bay Vacational Village and the Linshan Scenic Spot. The Wuxi Taihu Film & Television City has built the theme parks such as "City of Europe", "City of Tang Dynasty", "City of Three Kingdoms" and "City of Water Margin". The Yangtze River that surge past the city, the Grand Canal and other rivers that form a transport web, and the rippling waters of Tai Lake combine to support life in Wuxi, cultivating and nurturing a culture featuring vigor and vitality, intelligence and wisdom.
