-Travel to Xining

Xining, the capital of Qinghai Province with a history of over 2,100 years, is the political, economical and cultural center of the province. It covers an area of 7,665 square kilometers with 2.1 million people. The weather is relatively ideal and the average temperature is 7.7 degrees Celsius. As the starting point of Qinghai-Tibet Railway and Qinghai-Tibet Highway, and the ending point of Lanzhou-Qinghai Railway, the city is the eastern gateway to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and plays an important role in the communication between the central land of China and the west.

Encircled by the continuous mountains and traversed by the mighty Yellow River, Xining boasts its beautiful natural scenery and pleasant climate. It is also considered as one of the historical and cultural cities of China. It was by the sixteenth century that the city was set up as both a military garrison and a major trading post upon the Southern Silk Route. It remained an important trading post in the area, mainly for goods to and from Tibet and China. For most travellers, Xining provides a variety of delicious food and snacks. You can find some special meat products easily here.

Xining is regarded by many as being the "Summer Resort Capital of China", due to its cool summers. There are a number of natural attractions to enjoy including Qinhai Lake, Birds Island, Ta'er Monastery, Beichan Temple and Dongguan Mosque (one of the largest mosques in northern China).
