China Travel Insurance Notice

General Principles
All tourist agencies should have something similar to this policy for their clients. In the case of the following incidents during the tours organized by the agency compensation will be provided. The incidents covered are: loss, damage or theft of belongings, injury or death of tourists during their tour and costs relating to the injury or death. In case of injury or death, the costs can include the cost of treatment or the disposal of the decedent's remains and may sometimes extend to cover visitation by family and repatriation fees for minors and amends for the delayed or cancelled tour.

Insurance Policies
There are a wide variety of insurance policies for travellers that will cover you for the duration of your trip. Some will directly pay the local doctors and hospitals; others require you to pay for treatment and be reimbursed when you return home. If possible, choose a policy that includes coverage for ambulances and flights home. Travel agents are a good source of information about various insurance carriers. Also keep in mind that some policies have exclusions for what they consider 'high risk' activities, including rock climbing, scuba and various 'adventure travel.'

Compensation Standards
Currently, the limit of compensation available to a tourist on a domestic trip is RMB ¥80,000 (US$10,256); and RMB¥160,000 (US$20,512) if traveling overseas. The Chinese government has also imposed compensation limits for tourist agencies. If an agency specializes in domestic trips it's yearly compensation must be within 2 million Yuan (US$256,410), whilst an agency dealing with international trips must keep to a limit of 4 million Yuan (US$512,820) annually. If a tourist agency wishes to provide any high-risk travel services, then they must work with the relevant insurance companies to establish compensation limits and standards. These new regulations will lead to many improvements in the security of traveling in China. The majority of travel insurance covers the costs of cancellation or interruption of the trip as well as medical insurance. The policies are designed to pay for loss in the case of death, injury, illness and various other mishaps that may befall you whilst traveling.

Dear Monica, I have bought travel insurance for my clients in my country. Is the travel insurance valid in China? Or does your country need to buy the travel insurance again for the clients?

This is a very tipical item about China travel insurance. The point relies on which insurance company you buy the travel insurance from. Do they have cooperation with China? If so, the travel insurance you bought in your country works in China. And the hospital in China will provide any necessary documents.
