The Great Hall of People Guide

The Great Hall of People in Chognqing is a large complex that encompasses a grand auditorium, the People's Square, and the People's Hotel.it was built in June 1951 and completed in April 1954, formerly known as a Sino-Soviet Building. It is a fine, unique and neat oriental structure. In 1987, History of Comparative Architecture, which is a classical works of world's architecture published by Britain, embodied 43 contemporary structures in China. Chongqing People's Hall was placed second. The greatest feature of the hall is a 55-meter tall column-supported building flanked with wings.

After half a century, it still stand prominently at Xuetian Wan, Renmin Road, Chongqing. The hall complex is a cluster of attached structures which contain of the hall and three attached buildings respectively to the east, south and north. Collectively, they cover 66 thousand square meters (about 16.3 acre) of which the hall accounts for 18.5 thousand square meters (about 45.7 acre). The hall is 65 meters high (about 213 feet) and has a capacity of more than 4,000 seats.

The round roof with its green glazed tiles makes the building looks like The Temple of Heaven in Beijing, the porch in front of the hall with its red columns and white marble rails reminds people of the Tian An Men gate in Beijing. If there is no tour guide in the Hall, you may feel here in Beijing .The building is 65 meters high, with construction area of 18,500 square meters, built in the traditional Chinese place style, imposing, beautiful and magnificent, The ground of the square is paved with smooth and shining marble tiles; there is magic music fountain; at the southern end of the square stands a stage for performances in the open air. In the numerous beautiful lights in the evening, you may see thousands of people dancing on the square.
