The Daming Lake, covering an area of 46 hectares, is a largest natural lake located in the north of Jinan City. The lake itself covers an area of 460,000 square metres with an average depth of 3 meters. The lake is the convergence of a number of springs in the city, including the Pearl Spring, the Lotus Spring, and Wangfu Pool, etc. The lake is fed by the artesian karst springs of the area and retains a fairly constant water level through the entire year no matter there's a draught or heavy rains. The Daming Lake is regarded as one of the three must-see tourist attractions in Jinan, together with Baotu
Spring and Thousand-Buddha Mountain. With some 800 weeping willows standing along the shores, over 2.7 hectares of the lake is planted with lotuses. Emerald-green lotus leaves, lotus flowers with delicate fragrance, fish swimming in the lake and birds hovering in the sky, all make a superb fascinating picture, attracting countless tourists to travel to the Daming Lake. Daming Lake is a vast lake whose shores are home to many pavilions, terraces, kiosks and chambers. The name of the lake was first written in the Commentary on the Waterways Classic because of the lush foliage that, at
points, blocks the sky and creates a unique scene. There are several famous spots to see along the lake, including the Nanfeng Temple and Beiji Tower, to name a few. There is also a famous garden, Xiayuan Garden, built in 1909, that is a replica of Tianyige Tower of Ningbo and is the best garden to see in Jinan.
