In Kashgar, the remote desert oasis in "another world", travelers will feel the strong ethnic atmosphere in the streets, the bazaars, restaurants, teahouses and with the people of the city. Kashgar is situated at the foot of the Pamir Mountains and west of the Taklamakan Desert, with a history spanning over 2,000 years. It used to be an important stop on the centuries-old Silk Road. Caravans from the West and other parts of the world stopped to exchange and buy goods. Additionally, the city was also a gateway for travelers and merchants to Persia and India, as well as other ancient empires.

The people of Kashgar are good at handicrafts, in addition to being famous for their folk songs and dances. Main scenic spots include the Tomb of Apak Roja and the big bazaar. Today, Kashgar still has the largest bazaar in Xinjiang with a capacity for tens of thousands people. The bazaar is bustling with different unique supplies, including embroidered caps, knives from Yengisar, silk fabrics, wool for carpet, sheep skins, herbal medicine, pottery, musical instruments, crops and fruits, livestock. The bazaar is also the center for cultural and news exchange. Every year, there are various folk performances, circus shows, and other ethnic displays.

With the special geographical location and long history, Kashgar has abundant natural resources, a rich Western Region culture and simple folk. In recent years, Kashgar and the nearby counties have been opened gradually and basic tourism facilities have been improved gradually, making it a travel magnet.
