Kashgar Climate

Kashgar is located west of the Taklamakan Desert at the feet of the Tian Shan mountain range, about 1,290m/4,232ft above sea level. The climate in Kashgar belongs to the continental arid climate with rich sunshine and 4 distinctive seasons. Weather here is comfortable, winter short and warm, while summer long and cool. The city enjoys pleasant temperatures in most time of the year. The average temperature of the coolest month of January is -6ºC, and in the hottest month, July, the average temperature is 27ºC.

The annual average temperature is 11ºC. 224 days of frost-free period. Kashgar has a very dry weather with annual precipitation only 121 millimeters and average annual precipitation of 50mm. Kashgar is the westmost big city in China. Legend said that the characters Monk Tangseng and his 3 disciples from the Chinese classic “Journey to the West” once passed through this city on their trip to India. Most of resident here are Uyghur People. The best time to visit Kashgar is August and September each year.
