Qiaojiabu Folk Culture Museum Guide

The Qiaojiabu Folklore Museum, or Wang's Compound, known as the "First House of the Chinese Folk Residence", is located in Jingsheng Town, Lingshi County, about 35 kilometers from Pingyao Ancient City and 140 kilometers from Taiyuan City. Started construction in the 1660s and completed in the 1800s, the residence covers a total area of 150,000 square meters and encompasses Gao's Gliff, the cluster in the Hongmen Blockhouse, Yi'an Garden, Danpu Garden, ancestral

temples, etc. The Painting and Calligraphy Hall displays hundreds of excellent works while Treasure Hall contains collections of furnishings, old coins, porcelains, rare stones and jade carvings. Both displays are open to the public.The Wang's Compound boosts a harmonious and grand layout and is built on the scenic hillsides. It is not only an example of residential architecture, but also a museum of architectural art. The building's architecture is both inspired by South and North China, which combines to form a wonderful art style rooted in the land of China.

There are many sculptures of stone, wood and brick in the courtyard. The crafts are refined and exquisite. Today many architectural groups are open to visitors, such as Gaojia Ya, Hongmen Bao, Chongning Bao, etc. August 18th of each year is the Tourism Festival of Wang's Compound and certain activities will be held on that day. During Spring Festival there are marvelous traditional performances of Shehuo in the Wang's Compound.
