Shigatse, an important city, connected to several surrounding countries and other cities of Tibet. Over 90% of the Tibetans were farmers or herdsmen in the city and almost one quarter of Tibet's population lives in Shigatse along the Yarlung Zangbo River. The town, formerly called Tsang, was at the center of the Tubo Kingdom. Shigatse was and still remains one of the largest cities in Tibet and plays a significant role in the local culture and politics. Shigatse is one of the world's highest cities and also with beautiful high plateau scenery, thus, it is a hot travel spot for visitors.

Shigatse Administrative Region has 218 townships, 17 counties, 1,752 villager committees and 28 urban resident committees. The city itself is located between the Himalayas and the Kangdese-Nyainqentanglha mountain ranges. The average elevation of the city is 4,000 meters. Guests can witness the enormous beauty of the youngest and highest Himalayas from the city and experience the different aspects of Tibetan life in the city. Is it worthwhile to travel in Shigatse when I’m Tibet? Do you have any local travel agency in Shigatse that can help me arrange my Shigatse travel if I’m going? And I think I will need a guide in Shigatse just in case.

Usually when you travel to the Everest Base Camp, it’s better to stay at a better hotel in Shegar. The other way is to stay at the base camp on the day you arrive, but better conditioned hotels are in Shegar.
