Liugong Islandland is a small island located on the northeastern edge of Shandong Peninsula, China at the mouth of Weihai Bay. It is known as the "birthplace of China's first navy".Liugong Island is well known for its splendid natural scenery such as continuous ridges and peaks and densely-grown trees, hence the name “Wonderland beyond the Human World”, therefore, in 1992, it was appointed a National Forest Park by the Ministry of Forest for the high forest coverage of 87%. Besides, the fresh air on the island, the agreeable climate, the small fluctuation of the temperature between the day and night, and an annual average temperature of 12℃, make it an ideal place for tourism, summer resort and recuperation.
Liugong Island abounds unique and rich human sight spots including the site of the Warring States Period which dates back to thousands of years, the remains of Beiyang Fleet Command, Navy Academy, the Residence of Commander Ding, Iron Dock and Old Fort, the Monument to the Soldiers who sacrificed their lives in Jiawu War(Sino-Japanese War in 1894), China Weapons Museum, many remains of buildings in European style when the island was colonized by British government. Moreover, some new sight spots such as Liugong Islandland Museum have been built in recent years while other sight spots are in the process of being repaired.
Liugong Island Museum is a large sight spot, which blends its long history with audio-visual S&T; classical garden style and professional architectural art. It focuses on displaying three subject matters: the culture of Liugong (explanations as follows), the culture of JiaWu (Sino--Japanese War in 1894-1895) as well as colonial domination of British, which thus can be likened to the encyclopedia of Liugong Island.
