The wooden pagoda named Shijia Pagoda has been towered aloft until nowadays. The pagoda has been able to withstand many severe earthquakes over the years since it was built. There have been a few major earthquakes, including one that lasted seven days during the Yuan Dynasty under Emperor Shun. The area of the pagoda was effected by the earthquakes, yet the

pagoda did not budge. Since the People's Republic of China was founded, many survey groups, sent by the government, has looked after the pagoda and repaired and reinforced the structure. In 1974, as the pagoda was being repaired, a number of valuable items were found in the pagoda, all placed there during the Liao Dynasty, including some very important Buddhist scriptures.
