Black Dragon Pool Guide

-Travel to Black Dragon Pool

Black Dragon Pool, known as Jade Spring Park, is a well-known travel site for both foreign and home travelers. It located in the north of Square Street in Lijiang Old Town. The name comes from the fact that the waters sparkle like jade and the waters are clear as crystal. Black Dragon Pool, with an area of 40 hectares, provides a haven for birds and aquatic life. There are also some ancient monuments in this park, such as the Longshen Temple, the Deyue Pavilion, the Suocui Bridge and the Hanyue Stage. The Longshen Temple, the centre building in the park, was

built during Emperor Qianlong's reign in 1737, used for praying for Longshen, the God of Rain in Chinese mythology. The Ming Dynasty was overthrown by the Qing Dynasty in Chinese history, and the potentates of the Qing were all from a minority ethnic group called 'Manchu'. When the Manchu marched into the Chinese mainland and became the rulers, many people killed themselves to show their loyalty to the Ming Dynasty, including a scholar named Xue Erwang and his whole family. They drowned themselves, and the tomb of these loyalists is located beside

the Black Dragon Pool. Every March, when the weather is delightful, the local community gathers at the Dragon God Temple to pray and seek blessing. The emerald spring waters are famous for their curative powers, whether for stomach troubles or to enhance your complexion. Once you come here, the local guide will show you the great beauty of the pool.
