Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port is part of Shanghai Port and is operated by Shanghai Port Group. It is located at Waigaoqiao in Pudong New Area in Shanghai. Waigaoqiao Port lies about 7 km east to Wu Song Port, 30km from downtown Shanghai, and 85km west to the estuary of Yangtze River.
So ships larger than 87,000 tons will not get to the sparkling new terminal ( Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal), due to the low bridge on Huangpu River, and will have to berth at the scenic and relaxing terminal in Waigaoqiao, which, in rush hour, can be close to an hour’s bus ride from the Hongkou terminal. At best, Shanghai Waigaoqiao can handle four cruise ships at any one time. More than 100 international cruise ships are expected to stop by Shanghai every year.
