Flaming Mountain was formed around a hundred million years ago. The whole mountain contains nothing more than these reddish slopes and gullies. Looking over the mountain from a distance, under the sunlight, the heat wave and the floating clouds will make you have the illusion that the mountain is on fire. Some people who travel around the mountain even have some of the rubber burn from their shoes' soles. Many Chinese also believe that the red sand and rocks of the mountain resemble a sleeping dragon. Actually, the Flaming Mountain is not a death hill but a charming scenic spot with the views in its valley.
Because the deep valley block the hot sunlight, the valley is a cool green place. Many clear spring water flow out of the ground, and went on irrigates the whole valley.
