The Southern Pasture Guide

The Southern Pasture is located in the Nanshan Natural Scenic Area which is a few hours bus ride from Urumqi. The Southern Pasture is more than 60 kilometers away from the Urumqi and consisis of ten east-west valley of all size. The Southern Pasture is of mountainous forest grassland stucture, and a good natural pasture which is also a natural resort for summer, retreat and travel. In June, 1990, the Southern Pasture has officially been announced as the first autonomous natural scenic area by the gogernment of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The drive from Urumqi to Sourthern Pasture is

beautiful, with views of valleys, mountains and springs. The Southern Pasture is a grazing area with mountains, waterfalls and vegetation surrounding the area. Here there is a famous summer resort for visitors that have several activities, including horseback riding. In the pastures you can also visit a traditional yurt and have a meal there and witness dancing and singing. There are also several scenic spots to enjoy at the Southern Pasture including: Zhaobi Mountian, Da'xi Gully and others. and forest, sparkling waterfalls and books in the range. It has become a famous summer resort in Xinijiang. The Southern Pasture is inhabitaed by Khazak herdsmen and the white Khazak yurts dot on the mellow pasture as if pears on the prairie.
