Zhongdian, is a primarily Tibetan county in northwestern Yunnan provincein southwest China and the capital of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. It has been deemed as the "Eden in dream" and known as the "sun and moon in heart" in Tibetan, Now renamed as Shangri-La after the mythical paradise in James Hilton's book, Lost Horizon, the town has become one of dream travel destinations attracting more and more people to come to explore. Zhongdian is also the home to the stunning Ganden Sumtseling Monastery and its retinue of several hundred monks and lamas.

Temperature in Zhongdian is vastly different in the south grasslands and north plateau. The south is warm and rainy, with most rainfall between May and September, so follow the weather guide to choose the best travel period. Scattered like jewels, visitors are treated to the most rare and spectacular glaciers and snow-covered mountains with a land of tranquil scenery. Travellers will have an experience of the Tibetan life, culture, religion and cuisine. The newly built Zhongdian Airport has a daily flight to and from Kunming, which makes the travel to Zhongdian much easier.
