Lugu Lake Guide

Lugu Lake travel guide: it lies 200 kilometers from the center of Lijiang City in Yunnan Province. The lake covers a total area of 52 square kilometers, in shape of a horse's hoof-long from north to south, and narrow from east to west, remaining uncontaminated. It is 2,685 meters above sea level, and the average depth is 45 meters, with the deepest point being 93 meters. Travel to Lugu Lake, you need to notice the weather change and take warm clothes with you. The lake is also surrounded by five islands: Heiwawudao, Liwubidao, Ligedao (Islands of Penglai) in Sichuan Province and two others

in Yunnan Province. The islands are inhabited by Mosuo families, so for visitors, it's an ideal place to experience the local culture as well as admire the beautiful scenery of the lake. You can easily find a local guide to lead you travel around the area. The pretty and graceful Mosuo girls, the ancient and natural canoes, and the moving and pleasant fishing songs are consdered to be the “three most enjoyable things on the lake”. The lake is embraced in green mountains. The best-loved one by the Mosuo people is the Lion Mountain which is regarded as the Holy Gemu Mountain. Mosuo people worship the Goddess Gemu and on the 25th of July every year, they gather at the foot of the mountain for sacrificial rites. Travel around Lugu Lake, you can alo visit many cultural sites and scenic spots scattered along the lake, which are Mosuo villages, plateau hot springs, and underground maze-the Lucky Cave, the chieftain’s Palace, the Zhamei Lamaist Temple, the ancient tea and horse trading route, etc.
