Hohhot, which means "Blue City" in Mongolian, is the capital city of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Lying to the south of Yinshan Mountain and north of the Yellow River, the city serves as the regional hub for education and economic, scientific and technological development. Hohhot is the home of Han, Mongolian, Manchu, Hui, Korean and many other nationalities. For over a thousand years, Hohhot had been a popular resort for Mongol nomads. The best time to travel to Hohhot is between June and September. It is a cool place to spend summer days.

Hohhot boasts a long history like many other Chinese cities. As early as the Warring States Period (476 BC-221 BC), Zhao Kingdom built Yunzhong City in this area. Today, people still can see the relics of Zhao Great Wall in Hohhot. During the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), Hohhot was expanded to Suiyan City which is an important military port and commercial center in northern China. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, Hohhot also gained a name, "City of Temples", since there were many temples in the city. People can visit Five Pagoda Temple, Dazhao Temple, Xilituzhao Palace, Wanbu Huayanjing Pagoda and many other precious historical relics.

The most important industry in Hohhot is the dairy industry, hence its nickname "the capital of milk". Any visitor to Hohhot should spend some time in the grasslands to the north of the city. Hohhot boasts a wide range of outdoor activities to enjoy such as horseback riding and trekking. You can also find kayak adventures along the Yellow River.
