Xilamuren Grasslands is located 100 kilometer north of Hohhot. Xilamuren Prairie, commonly known as Taihe, got its name from the Puhui Temple, a Lama temple built in the Qing dynasty near the Xilamuren River. Constructed in 1769 during the reign of Emperor Qianlong, Puhui Temple was initially a retreat for the Sixth Panchen Lama of Xilitu Lamasery in Huhhot. With engraved beams and pictured purlins, the temple is still quite splendid. Xilamuren Prairie, a typical example of the grasslands found on the plateau, is covered by green grass and fresh flowers every summer and autumn.

Hulunbeier Grasslands is considered as the finest pasture in China. In the summer, visitors can go horseback riding and watch horseracing and wrestling matches. Campfire parties featuring feasts of whole roasted lamb are popular. Huhenuoer Grassland and Hulun Lake are the most famous travel sights in Hulunbeier. The lake is teeming with fish and shrimp. Hulun is the largest lake in Inner Mongolia and one of the five largest freshwater lakes in China. In autumn, the scenery is especially attractive.
