Hohhot, located in the south central part of Inner Mongolia and is encircled by the Daqingshan Mountain to the north and the Hetao Plateau to the south, is the capital city of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in northern China. The city enjoys the semi-humid temperate continental monsoon climate and has 2,700 hours sunshine time. Hohhot has the short spring and autumn with the large temperatue difference during the days and nights. Winter is the low season in Hohhot, and the temperature will be -30 degrees

celsius. January is the coldest month and July is the hotest month in Hohhot. The temperature can reach to 40 degrees celsius in summer. But, the best time to visit Hohhot is summer, since the vast grassland is full of grass and horses there. The temperature at grassland area is around 20 degrees celsius, compared to the temperature in the city. Guests can live in the Mongolian Yurts and enjoy the milk tea and local food there. But, in the evening, guests need to wear more clothes to see the beautiful sky since the large temperature difference on the grassland. The rainy season is from June to September, and the precipitation of the city is around 400 mm annually.

I have a friend living in Hohhot and I'm in Beijing. Would like to visit her in August when school's over. How's the weather in Hohhot? Temperature and rains?

Hohhot in August is not very hot. The weather is good and rainy sometimes. Highest temperature will be 26.4 celcius and lowest 14.8. Hohhot weather is very good for a summer vacation.

The temperature different of Hohhot in May is very big, ranging from 8C to 23C on average. It is very warm during the day, so you can forget the layers. But it’s better to wear a lightweight jacket in early morning and evening.
