-Travel to Shangrila

Shangri-La seems like a dream travel destination for everyong. It has been regarded as the "Eden in dream" which could not possibly exist on Earth, since it first appeared in the novel Lost Horizon written by James Hilton a British novelist. Known as the "sun and moon in heart" in Tibetan, Shangri-La is the capital of Diqing County situated just north of Yunnan Province, adjoins to Sichuan and Tibet. The snowy mountains, endless grassland, azure lakes and grand gorges attract people home and abroad to have its beauty unveiled.

Scores of years have witnessed the failure of numerous efforts to seek out and pinpoint the exact location of this dreamland. A few years ago, after years of persistent searching and researching, the government of Yunnan Province finally declared the discovery of Shangri-La and the long lost horizon was recovered in Diqing, this stunning prefecture in Yunnan Province. Inhabited by many different ethnic groups, Tibetans comprise the majority of the population in this area. So travelers will have an opportunity to experience Tibetan life, culture, religion and cuisine.

The temperature in Shangri-La is vastly different in the south grasslands and north plateau. The south is warm and rainy, and the coldest months are from December to February, where crossing the passes become nearly impossible. The best time to travel is during the annual horseracing festival (June), when local cuisine and cultural performances are at their best. Below is the detailed guide to Shangri-La attractions. It is ok for your time. It’s not very hot and in the morning and afternoon, it is a little cold. So you need bring the common summer clothes and some long sleeves. But more important, you need bring some sunscreen cream to protect yourself from the ultraviolet ray because of the high altitude. There are a lot of famous scenic sights for you to visit there, like Songzanlin Lamasery, Pudacuo National Park, Napa Lake, the old town of Dukezong etc. You can fly to Diqing from Kuala Lumpur. If you you just stay in shangrila, 2-3 days is ok, but if you have enough time, you can also stay longer to visit some other places around shangrila.
