If you travel there in winter or spring time, you will see the scared view of the lake filled up a valley surrounded on three sides by mountains which are covered in snow. There are nine caves in the northwest peak. During the rainy season, the lake expands and the water will rush through the nine holes and empty into the Jinsha River. In autumn, the prairie changes into a golden color and flocks of yaks, horses, sheep graze there. During the winter especially, the reserve is home to a large number of water fowl, many of which enjoy either state or provincial protection. For example, the black-neck crane (Grus nigricollis) is designated as a Class-A endangered species under state protection (only about 6000 of these rare birds remain worldwide).
