The mountain villa with embracing beauty is located on Jinde road within the Embroidery Museum now in Suzhou. Celebrated for its wonderful limestone mountain, it enjoys the same reputation as other famous gardens in China. It covers an area of 2180 sq.metres. According to historical records, the limestone mountain was designed and piled up by the great Qing master Ge yuliang. Within an area of less than 500 sq. meters, most of the buildings in the garden are constructed to face the mountains, forming different scene viewing spot to enjoy the various sceneries. The mountains, ravines, pathways, bridges and cliffs in the nature are all miniatured into the garden. So we way this mountain villa ranks first among all existing man-made mountains in Chinese gardens.The mountain villa with embracing beauty was listed as the national key units of protected cultural relics in 1988.Together with the Humble Administrators’ Garden, the lingering garden and the master of nets garden, it was also listed as the world cultural heritage by UNESCO.  

A number of buildings are arranged opposite to the mountain. There are two halls to the south of the mountain, facing each other over a stream. The front hall is called “in company with a ravine” and the rear hall “the mountain villa with embracing beauty”. On the top of mountain is a pavilion called “housing the mountain with a half-filled pool in autumn”. At its foot are the “putting a question to the spring” pavilion and the “make-up autumn galley”. There are viewing places high above or down below, far away or quite near. The man-made mountain scenery is changing at every step, and gives great pleasure to the viewers from any direction.
