Tongli, located in Jiangsu Province, is one of many water towns located by the eastern shore of Taihu Lake in the Yangtze River Delta area. Tongli Town has been through more than a thousand years but is well-preserved since its existence in Song Dynasty. Hundreds of beautiful traditional garderns, temples and residences that were built during the Ming and Qing Dynasty ornament the small town delicately. The town is divided into seven islets by fifteen rivers while bonded by 49 bridges. Therefore the Tongli Water town has long been famous for 'Bridges, Waters and People' and had the fame as

'Oriental Venice'. The Tongli Town is just eighteen kilometers from Suzhou City covering an area of sixty-three square kilometers with an population of 55,000. In the city, Jiayin Hall, built in 1922, is famous for its woodcarvings located on the hall itself. Congben Hall, built in 1911, is another structure famous for its woodcarvings.In Tongli, gardens are also very important. Inside the garden, all of its elements are integrated to fit within one another: halls, ponds, pavilions, terraces, etc. Because the town is surrounded by rivers, bridges play an important part to the city.
