Yinchuan, the capital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Lies in the central section of Ningxia Plain, with the Yellow River to the east and Helan Mountain to the west. Yinchuan enjoys abundant water resources and gains its reputation of “a land of fish and rice in the frontier”. Yinchuan is made up of 2 counties and 3 districts, covering an area of 3499 square kilometer. Located in the dry temperate zone, it enjoys a typical continental temperate climate characterized by its long and cold winter, short and hot summer, low annual precipitation and plenty of sunshine.

Yinchuan is a multi-nationality city including Han, Hui, Manchu, Monchu, Mongolian, and Chaoxian peoples. Hui people, accounting for 26.3% of the total population, have maintained their own traditional folk customs and life style. Boosting over 1,300 years of brilliant history, Yinchuan originally served as a trade rout town made large for its convenient location between Western Chinese cities such as Urumqi and the Eastern ones such as Beijing and Harbin. Today, it has become one of the most popular travel destinations in northwestern China.
