The Nanguan Mosque, located in Yinchuan City, is one of the largest mosques in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region with a long history of several hundred years and a great reputation among Hui people. The original Nanguan Mosque was built outside the South Gate at the end of the Ming Dynasty. It was moved to downtown area in 1915 then was expensed in 1953, then the Nanguan Mosque became a large-scale Chinese traditional architectural complex with an area covering over 3,000 square meters. In the 1960s, it was demolished during the culture revolution again. The

present Nanguan Mosque was rebuilt in the 1980s with an area of 2,074 square meters. The new Nanguan Mosque features an Arabian Islamic architectural style, characterized by grand domes, long tines and arch doors and windows. The new Nanguan Mosque, covering an area of 300 square meters. The mosque is twenty-six meters high and consists of several different halls for different functions and activities. Every Friday and every Hui festival, thousands of Muslims gather at the mosque for religious activities and celebrations. There are five green domes on the top of this

two-storey building. It is said that the biggest one in the center symbolizes the Mohammed, the prophet of Islamism, and that the other four symbolize four famous imams. There is a chapel in the first floor residences for the imams. The second floor is a spacious prayer hall which can accommodate about 1,000 worshipers at a time.
