Lhasa Climate

Located at an elevation of 3,650 meters (11,975 feet), Lhasa enjoys a mild climate, neither too cold in winter nor hot in summer. The average annual temperature is about 8 degree Celsius. The city experiences a large difference in temperature from morning to night. The rainfall of Lhasa is considerable, only 500 millimeters (19.7 inches) which is mostly concentrated in July, August and September. The rainfall may block roads and make travel difficult but the scenery at the time will be the best. It is dry and windy in winter and spring, thus the best sightseeing time is from April to October. are able to adapt to the plateau climate there. Some medicine to prevent altitude sickness and vitamins will also help travelers to become accustomed to the local weather. The sunshine is strong there all year round, hence the sunglasses, sun cream, lip balm and hat should be brought. Despite the amount of sunlight in Tibet, it has a large range of the daily temperature, chilly at night even though the day is sunny. Most hotels in Tibet have no central heating. It is therefore a wise choice to bring winter clothes with you. Generally a T-shirt, overcoat and jeans are also indispensable. And, of course, comfortable and warm footwear is essential.
