Hangzhou Climate

Lying in the south of the Yangtze River, Hangzhou has humid subtropical climate with four distinctive seasons with an average annual temperature of 16°C (60.8°F). Hangzhou, a place with abundance of water resources, receives an average annual rainfall of 1450mm. June, July and August is the rainy season with frequent showers. Like other cities in south China along the east coastline, Hangzhou suffers typhoon storms in mid-summer. Typhoons seldom strike it directly, but often bring heavy rain when clear skies and

bracing air can be enjoyed almost every day. Spring is a good time to visit Hangzhou to see the peach blossom around the West Lake, while October also provide the best combination of mild temperatures and little rain. You may also catch the Mid-Autumn Day festivities around West Lake if the Chinese calendar permits. One thing should be mention is that, because Hangzhou is near Shanghai, many Chinese visitors always take a weekend or holiday trip there, it's better to avoid these peaks. Besides, heating is not provided as standard in public buildings according to government regulations, warm medium-weighted clothing is needed if you are there in winter time.
