Nanjing Climate

Nanjing is at the lower river valley of the Yangtze River (in the center of the Yangtze Economic Delta), and only a two-hour train ride from Shanghai. It belongs to the northern subtropical monsoon climate zone where the four seasons are clearly demarcated, the annual mean temperature is 16ºC and the time from mid-June to July is the rain period. Along with Wuhan and Chongqing, Nanjing is often referred to as one of the "Three Hottest Cities" in China. The average ground temperature can reach 35ºC and the extreme

highest point could reach 40℃ sometime during Nanjing's scorching summer periods. Spring and winter are both extremely comfortable with fluffy snow during the cold months and blossoming foliage in spring. The short and comfortable autumn time from October to mid-November is the best travel period for the city. In regards of the clothing, T-shirt will be enough for the hot summer time, don't forget the suntan lotion. Warm jackets and coats are needed in some cold months, while light-weighted clothing like sweater is OK for spring and autumn time.
