Yutian (Hotan / Hetian)'s climate is dry and warm. It sets just south of the world's second largest desert, the Taklamakan. Thus dry, big temperature difference and strong winds are the main climatic characteristics in the area. Small amount of annual rainfall with frequent sandstorms have slowed down Yutian's economic development historically, so the built-up area is moved down southwards about 150km. The best time for sightseeing is between May and October every year, while March and April is also good time to visit, when the vivid peach blossoms and the beautiful apricots flourish gloriously under the bright, warm spring sunlight. Yutian was
one of the thirty-six kingdoms in western China. During its 5,000 years of history, it is famous for its natural resources and therefore called "the country of jade and gold". It's also a storehouse for grain and cotton, the home of many delicious fruits and beautiful carpets as well as silk and other traditional local products which are famous home and abroad. In many places the dunes look very pretty but the local people struggle against the pressure of nature which wants to overrun the oasis. Thousands of kilometers of grape corridors enrich the environment of Yutian.
