The Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Center is one of the biggest if not the biggest centers in the world for pandas and is truly unique, located in the northern suburb of Chengdu on Futou Hill. The base has served several purposes, which has a research lab, panda kindergarten, museum and adult panda areas. The Breeding Center covers an area of over 92 acres, and is home to several species of rare and endangered animals. The Breeding Center's research center has three floors dedicated to research, and one floor used to educate the public on the research to promote China's endangered species. Presently there are 45 pandas living at the base and other type of animals, such as the red panda. The red panda looks like a small red raccoon and it is very cute to look at. The baby giant pandas are kept in the kindergarten until they are three years old, then they are moved to the adult area.

It is many visitors to the center's favorite places. There are large open areas for the giant pandas to roam free. The Breeding Center is home to many firsts. It was the first to achieve breakthroughs in captive breeding. They have set up the largest semen and cell bank for the giant pandas as well as the first giant panda studbook in the world. Because an adult giant panda eats up to 40kg (80 pounds) of bamboo a day, a large number of plants and over ten thousand clumps of bamboo have been cultivated to provide food for the giant pandas.

The center works had to promote public awareness for wildlife and environmental conservation. Visitors to the area can also have their picture taken with the baby panda for a certain price. The best time to visit the center is in the morning when the pandas are awake and active. The pandas spend the majority of the day sleeping, and when they are active, they love to eat; more than 95% of their diet is bamboo. It is very fun and interesting to watch as the pandas chomp away at the bamboo during their breakfast. Chengdu's Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is a delightful experience for visitors of all ages. The giant pandas are adorable, and to watch them romp in their large open air enclosures is a delightful experience.

A visit to the Chengdu Panda Base is a must! Is it possible to take a photo with the panada and feed them by myself in the Chengdu Panda Zoo? They are so cuddly!
