Does it charge anything to climb up to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda? Is it worth visiting inside? I have read in guide books about a light show with foundations. Is it near the Big Wild Goose Pagoda?

Yes, the entrance fee is RMB20, and another REM20 will be charged if you want to climb the Pagoda. Regarding the music fountain, I think you're talking about North Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the entire square is composed of waterscape fountains. It is free and really nice to see, especially at night.
