With the mild subtropical climate, a mild temperature and plenty of rainfall, it is a pleasant place to visit Guilin at any time of the year. Well, in the other way, you may see Guilin weather can get very hot, humid, and it rains a lot. Summer is the hottest season in Guilin, with plenty of sunny weather to go round and temperatures regularly topping 30C / 86F. The wettest months tends to be April, May and June. The rain will abate the hot weather, bringing cool summer nights. January and February may experience the coldest weather, with the temperatures around a very favorable 18C / 64F. In theory, the best time to visit Guilin is from August to October, when the weather conditions are most favorable. Especially during the so-called slack season (October to December),

many interesting activities are held there. Traveling during this time to taste the profound local customs is a pretty good idea. If you don't mind the wet weather, from April to July, you can enjoy the fantastic rainy sceneries in Guilin, but umbrella is always a sensible item of your luggage during that period. However, the two golden weeks, namely May Day (May.1st-7th) and National Day (October.1st-7th), should be avoided. During that time, countless Chinese people flow into Guilin. Similar conditions may also happen in January or February during the Spring Festival. About clothing, a sweater is for spring and autumn, while a short-sleeved shirt for summer, and warmer clothes should be prepared for the winter.

My family and I intend to visit Guilin from 5 to 10 Dec 2010. We would like to know the average temperature during that time, and if we need to bring our winter clothing like thick jackets, long johns, etc. Thank you.

We will be doing a group bike ride through Guilin, Yangshuo, Guangzhou in mid October (less than 2 weeks). What clothing is appropriate for evening dining, touring, etc. If weather is warm, are shorts appropriate for men/women?

Just the causal clothes which is comfortable for you are ok for evening dining. There is no custom to wear formal clothes for evening dining, etc. The weather is warm during the day, but it is a little chilly in early morning and at night. The temperature is about 17℃-26℃. Shorts are ok, but it would be better to bring few long-sleeved dresses as well.
