Guilin, with the total area of 4,195 square kilometers and 1.2 million people, is located in the northeastern part of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on the west bank of Li River. The city has been the political, economic and cultural center of Guangxi since the Northern Song Dynasty.
